First of all, you should know that my 8 year old son is a logical boy. He likes things to match and be organized, and make sense. He's particular about what he wears and how his hair looks and likes everything to match. I would say that it's borderline OCD, but in a non-worrisome way.

Well I discovered recently that she shares a passion for secret silliness like his mother. I began to notice that whenever he wore socks with pants, they were indeed very silly socks. Now, it's important to point out that with shorts and sneakers, he wore white socks. But with jeans, he likes silly socks. I like that because (like Des pointed out early on in this blog) it's for him. It's private silliness, and that is just a strong indicator of a happy soul.

So we went to the pumpkin farm the other day and while on a hay ride, Darrien sat opposite me on a stack of hay, and I looked down and noticed... this:

That is a white ankle sock on one foot, and a green penguin Christmas sock on the other. That is absolutely on purpose. :) I am so proud!

So we have been totally MIA!! I know... I know. I miss this place! We have been busy doing a million and half things, HOWEVER, that does not mean that we have not continued to nurture and celebrate the silly in life!

Apparently the Silly Masters of all that is silly ALSO missed us and felt compelled to lead us BACK... into the dutiful path of being Silly Deliverers of the Tao.. the ART!! of Silly socks and silly sock wearing :) and so... the silly socks... found my mailbox :)

Okay, I just LOVE these socks! Look at these things!!!! lol THEY ARE AWESOME!!!

A friend recently emailed me these and I am so happy he did, I mean look at them!!! =D I can't decide which one I like more... the alligator... or the cow theme? what do YOU think?!

and so, the ritual of feet decoration begins. Because really... if you don't have the time to color your nails with funky colors, wear bright color shoes and take pictures of your feet in them while sitting in your yard sipping an iced coffee, well then... what's the point of anything?! :D

I woke up this morning and found these two bff socks. They fell in love... and I fell in love too.

We went for a walk on this beautiful morning...

and couldn't get enough of the warm sun. It truly was PERFECT!

We sat and chatted... kitty Audrey said, "Hello!" and all was good with the world. "Mmmm... Off to a good start!" Said one sock to the other.

And they loved.

Here's what you'll need:
- One pair of plain white boring socks
- A marker

What are your plans this weekend? Are you playing? Working? Spending time with loved ones? Alone? Going shopping? Frolicking in the park? Redoing the garage? Working at the mall?

It doesn't matter...whatever your plans are you can have a FANTASTIC weekend!

How? Decide to! Set your focus, your mind and your heart to finding joy in whatever it is you will be doing! Then, give yourself a reminder!!!

At the supermarket last night I said to the kid "have a great weekend!" and he said "Well, I'll be here all weekend" and I said "So what? You can still have a great weekend!" and he chuckled and smiled and I said "See? It's starting already!" :)

Now, he'll need a reminder so what he should do is put on a pair of silly socks! Then it occurred to me, that not everyone has silly socks! A dilemma indeed! Hmm...what to do...

Okay folks here's your mission! Make yourself a pair of silly socks!

Take a marker and draw a silly face on your socks! Then wear them all day! And don't forget to take a picture and post it in our guest book! Remember, the silliest socks win a prize :)

My son could not find the match for his white sock... so he asked if wearing two different ones was okay....

If you are a parent, you are secretly thinking "No! no you have to find a pair of socks!" aren't you? Because your thinking ahead about all the unmatched laundry and pairs of single socks floating around the drawer.... yeah I admit it, I thought about this for a moment too...

But only a moment! Then I said "Sure! Why not?" What's the difference afterall? LOL He went around all day with two different socks on, Good for him and his silly little self!

So I keep getting "wrong number" calls all the time. Okay I am exaggerating , maybe not all the time but enough times to find it annoying ( or so I thought :) Now, I have had wrong-number calls before, we all have, but this is the first time that I get calls for businesses. And not just A business, but MANY businesses. So far I have gotten calls for a barbershop, which in it by itself is funny, then for a cab company and today I got TWO calls for an auto parts store. I kinda wanna share the name here... haha! but just in case my little silly experiment gets me in trouble, I shall restrain :) So anyway, I am getting these calls and I am finding them annoying and so I do what I do and complain about them to my bff and she suddenly says, "Hey, you should do the Kramer and answer their questions, just go with it!" and I thought, ( right as I broke out in laughter ) BINGO!!! YES!!!!! I am sooooooooooooooooo all over that! how can *I*, the most loyal Seinfeld fanatic NOT do this?! I actually felt rather lame that I hadn't thought of the idea. But that's alright, she and I share the same brain, so technically... in some bizarre way I will take some of the credit.

For those of you who haven't lived on planet earth for the past 2 decades, this is what I am talking about :)

I mean, seriously! why am I choosing to be angry? so they dialed the wrong number, so what? how am I to know they weren't somehow... karmically sent my way... so I could be a good student of Sillyology and spread some of the wisdom bestowed upon me. Aha!! see? see where I am going ;)

And so.. while I don't really have the answer for what battery your car needs, I can certainly give them something to smile about, or ponder about... or just... remember.

So I have begun to undertake this seriously silly task of... well.. I don't really know what exactly, except it is important. Hey, sometimes we don't have the answers but that is not the point! the point is... how do you feel? THAT is the measurement when all else fails! How do you feel? well, I feel better being silly than being annoyed, so I am going with that!

Okay so back to the phone calls. I am gonna take this chance of misdialing and/or lousy phone service to spread the silly!! I shall wait and see who is led my way... maybe I will share a joke... maybe I shall compliment their voice... maybe I shall ask them what color socks they are wearing... maybe I shall simply say this, "Hey!! are you wearing silly socks today? and if not, why not?!"

HaHa! We shall see...

So remember, when it comes to life, it boils down to this, do you see the silly... or not?

They are purple, they are fuzzy and they do not match each other.

This silly sock features a lion, and yes there are paw prints on the bottom side.
These belong to one of the kids, but it's good to share :)

The Tao of Silly Socks

So I have this silly habit of looking forward to seeing my best friend's silly socks. Now... don't worry, I don't have some crazy foot fetish, lol but what I do have is a silly interest in silly socks :) they make me smile! So one day I am hanging out with her and she goes, "oh since I know you are always noticing my silly socks, let me show you" and she untied and took off her boot, her boot!! lol and showed me a pair of fuzzy ankle length blue and white stripe socks and both of us couldn't stop laughing. At that moment I said, "I love it, one has to be full of happiness to wear silly socks!." and so The Tao of Silly socks was born :)

It was at that moment ( sitting at the library ) with my best friend and her exposed foot and our children running around picking books that I understood the secret, the laws, the art, the Tao of silly socks and silly sock wearing. Yes my friends, there is quite a lot to covering our feet with multi-colored knit that needs to be documented, shared and celebrated!.

One has to be happy!! yes, HAPPY!! one has to be so unabashedly and genuinely happy that we are borderline, if not completely, dorks! lol so full of silliness and color that we can't help but dress up our feet! Why do I love silly socks? because they are hidden. It tells me the person wearing them is not trying to impress anyone... they are so happy and silly they are simply having fun with themselves! I don't know about you, but those are my type of people : ) If you can have fun with something that seems so monotonous and uninteresting... you are awesome!!

Silliness rocks! and silly sock wearing is an undiscovered school of joy. Next time you are out thinking you need a self-help book... just put that book down and get yourself some silly socks!

I mean think about it, just imagine a man in a tailored suite wearing silly socks, lol I don't know about you but I automatically start to laugh. lol And isn't that the whole point? Don't we all just take too many things just a bit too serious. And if we are to take something serious it should be things that make us smile! make us happy! make us laugh at ourselves.

Okay, so what is the Tao of Silly socks? what does it mean to be a silly sock wearer? well my friends... it is more involved than you think. The Tao of Silly socks is a very serious school of thought. The art of silly is... well, silly, lol but it is also an art that needs to be celebrated and not ignored. In my opinion there is just not enough silliness in the world.

So here are the rules,
#1, Be silly, the virtues of silliness are highly under rated. If you need some encouragement, come visit us here :) Also, be prepared and have a least a week's worth of silly socks!!
#2, Enjoy socks. Yes, enjoy socks!! lol
#3, Smile! Smile for no reason at all and for all the reasons in the world. Smile :)
#4, In addition to keeping your drawers full of silly socks, it is imperative that you share the joy and wisdom which has been bestowed upon you. So give silly socks to others. Skip the christmas cards and lame presents, give silly socks!!

So don't forget, be silly, surround yourself with other like-minded sillies, enjoy socks!, and spread the wisdom... The Tao of Silly Socks and Silly sock wearing always :)
